We are all cousins !

Last year in the serie “We are all cousins”, our cousin Paula CANIVET from England (line 010), was telling us about her superb line going back to 1513 and originated from Jersey. At the same time, our cousin David CANIVET from Canada was communicating his ascendants which were relating to the ones of Paula. This time, Paula sends us the ascendancy of John who is an Australian and who brings 401 new subjects to line 010 starting from 1754 whose 152 of them are Australians.

Philippe CANIVET, John’ ancestor born in Jersey in 1733, left to live in England in 1756. Few times later, his son James was candidate for a work in Portsmouth (G.B.). Most probably due to a spelling error, at that time, his patronimic was anglicized and changed into CANAWAY. As the relations with France were not good at that time it was probably better to have an english name.

One of Philippe CANIVET old grandson, William Ralph CANAWAY being John’ old grandfather left for Australia in december 1858. He was named “Ralph VIL” (may be the patronimic of his father, but also the one of his mother). He got married in october 1866 under the name of William Ralph CANAWAY.

We knew that one American line was named CANEVIT, now we also know that English and Australian lines also use the CANAWAY name. We are all cousins.
